The Church of St Peter Great Berkhamsted

A New Organ

A new organ for St Peter’s Church is commissioned from organ builder Peter Collins of Redbourne, Hertfordshire. It replaces the instrument by J.W. Walker which was located in the north aisle. The new two-manual organ is installed in the St John Chantry by the choir stalls in 1986. It features a brightly coloured casing in English oak and sycamore, and incorporates some of the original Walker pipework.

Various alterations are carried out over the years; after only 20 years the mechanics fail and a fundraising programme is launched to carry out a vital rebuild between 2007 and 2011. In 2014, tinkling bell mechanism called a Zimbelstern is added, an unusual feature for an English instrument.
