Mothers’ Union
The Mothers’ Union (MU) is a worldwide organisation of 4 million members whose work is developing communities, strengthening families, advocacy for the rights of women and children, and fighting poverty and injustice in 83 countries.
The Mothers’ Union Branch at St Peter’s and All Saints meets on the third Tuesday of the month. In this diocese we support local women’s refuges, provide a variety of items to children’s departments of local hospitals, raise awareness of gender-based violence and much more. We meet regularly to pray together for our members, those in need and the MU throughout the world. Our companionship is deepened by sharing experiences in our lives.
Internationally we raise funds to support parenting, literacy and development programmes, savings and credit schemes and community transformation programmes in developing countries.
We also take part in special Eucharists through the year for occasions such as Lent and Lady Day, as well as the annual Wave of Prayer service.
Our invited speakers cover a wide range of topics; we recently enjoyed a practical demonstration of flower arranging and going on pilgrimage to Santiago da Compostella. Our other activities with the congregations of St Peter’s and All Saints include a summer fundraising lunch, the Mothering Sunday project, our Christmas Travelling Cribs, and members attend diocesan and national MU events.
New members are always welcome.
