Sunnyside Wellbeing try bellringing

On 22 May St Peter’s hosted a group from The Wellbeing Team at Sunnyside Rural Trust, including Heather one of the Church’s ringers. They are a lottery funded project that provides enriching sessions for people struggling with social isolation, mild learning difficulties, autism, depression, anxiety and other challenges that prevent the participants from being in work.

Sessions offered include cooking, gardening, nature walk, art, crafts, animal care and a mental wellbeing music and art therapy session. All at no cost to the participant.

Mike provided a really entertaining evening demonstrating the fundamentals of bell ringing and allowing everyone to have a go. They learned about the history of bell ringing as well as some of the basic technicalities. A trip up to look at the bells connected the descriptions with visuals of the mechanisms.

The final stop was right up to the roof on a stunning sunny evening where everyone enjoyed picking out familiar places.

The team thoroughly relished the evening and went away feeling enriched in knowledge and joy!
