Rough sleepers in the heatwave

Hot, isn’t it? While we may enjoy sunny weather, it can be very challenging for homeless people. Rough sleepers will face numerous health risks when temperatures hit up to 30 degrees in the coming days. Our local homeless charity DENS have issued some useful pointers to help someone in need during a heatwave:

  • Give out water: you can even keep bottles in the freezer the night before so they stay colder for longer.
  • Provide sun cream: whether it’s new or a spare that hasn’t expired, this will protect against dangerous sunburn.
  • Donate a hat: sunglasses are also a great way to combat harsh UV rays.
  • Contact DENS: if you’re concerned about someone sleeping rough, call the Elms Hostel on 01442 800 131. They can send someone out to help.
