Renovation Appeal: roof progress

The St Peter’s Renovation Appeal fundraising team is working to raise funds to repair our leaking roof.  The church roof is clad in two different materials:

  • lead (the grey bits in the photo above), covering the Lady Chapel, the north transept and the vestry
  • copper (the green bits), covering the nave, the St John Chantry and the St Catherine Chapel

Where we are now

The lead roof is well on the way to being fixed. We hope the work will begin next year – 2026 will be the year for this to happen! At the moment we have put the contract out to tender, and we are will decide who will be the contractors to take on this project. This news will be known by the end of this month.

What’s the next project?

The bigger project will be the copper roof, and this will take a lot more money to fix – somewhere in the region of a six-figure sum. This project will be ongoing for years, but we will get there eventually. The fundraising team will be looking at ways of obtaining grants and continuing the fundraising work. We have raised some much-needed money in the past few years for the lead roof, and now we need to go for the bigger project. So watch this space!
