Local government reorganisation
Hertfordshire currently operates under an upper two-tier system of local government, with a county council and 10 smaller districts and boroughs. In 2028 this will change, and the current system is to be replaced with unitary authorities to save money. So how will Hertfordshire be carved up? It’s not been decided yet what the new map will be, but three options are being proposed. This would mean that Hertfordshire County Council would be abolished, and Dacorum would be merged into a new authority with either Watford or St Albans. The proposals are illustrated on the Hertfordshire Local Government Reorganisation website:
