From Ovaltine to Star Wars
Another Heritage Open Days festival was enjoyed by visitors to historic sites all over England last week. Christopher Green led another of his famous tours of St Peter’s, there were tours of Rectory Lane Cemetery, Berkhamsted Castle and the historic buildings in our town. St Peter’s welcomed quite a lot of visitors who came to see the BLHMS display of Berkhamsted’s Lost Buildings. On Sunday in the Civic Centre, Dacorum Heritage and the BFI held a fascinating join exhibition about advertising. It featured a display of historic advertising from the Ovaltine Factory in King’s Langley, and a display of posters from the BFI’s archive of films that were shot in Hertfordshire, including Star Wars, Brighton Rock, Goldeneye and Johnny English. We are thankful to all our heritage groups who have worked so hard to bring our local history to life, and look forward to the 2026 Heritage Open Days!
