Clementine Churchill
A noted anniversary we overlooked on 1 April was the 140th anniversary of the birth of Clementine Churchill (née Hozier; 1 April 1885 – 12 December 1977). Clementine was a pupil at Berkhamsted School and lived at 109 Berkhamsted High Street, next to what is now the Rex. She married Winston Churchill in 1908 and went on to play a significant role in British public life. Her childhood home here in Berkhamsted is marked with a blue plaque.
