Rectory Lane CemeteryThis month’s Rectory Lane Cemetery newsletter brings us the tally from the Big Butterfly Count, with sightings of Large Whites, Gatekeepers, Common Blues and a Brown Argus. The ongoing programme of wildflower cultivation in the upper cemetery by Friends of St Peter’s volunteers has been very successful in attracting a wide variety of butterfly species. Meanwhile, the ponds are attracting Emperor Dragonflies and providing a happy home for newts. With the VJ Day 80th Anniversary in mind, this month’s newsletter also pays tribute to three young men from Berkhamsted who died in Japanese POW camps in WWII. Although they are buried overseas, their names have been inscribed on their parents’ graves in Rectory Lane Cemetery.

The cemetery team are looking for new volunteers to help out on Wednesday afternoon work parties. If you think you can spare a couple of hours (2 – 4pm) on a Wednesday, do go along and meet the friendly team. For more details, read the newsletter at:
