Advent Carols by Candlelight
“Come, thou redeemer of the Earth!”
This Sunday is Advent Sunday, when the new church year begins. In the evening, our choir will be leading a service of lessons and carols celebrating our preparation for Christ’s incarnation at Christmas. It’s a very special service, and our candles symbolise the promise of light shining in the darkness. Advent music has a magic all of its own – we don’t sing Christmas carols just yet, but there will be music spanning 500 years of worship by composers such as Palestrina, Rachmaninov and MacMillan, and the congregation will join in singing stirring Advent carols such as O come, “O come Emmanuel” and “Lo, He comes with clouds descending”. Everyone is welcome to this service.
