Musical education
Children who sing in St Peter’s Choir get a free musical education: training is given by a team of professional musicians in singing and music theory.
Choristers also receive a small payment each month which increases as they progress through the choir.
By singing in a choir, choristers develop valuable skills that will be with them for the rest of their lives:
- the ability to concentrate for long periods;
- self-control and self-discipline;
- motivation and teamwork;
- introduction to foreign languages and the understanding of great texts and great music.
A place to make new friends
As well as developing musical skills, St Peter’s choir is a great place to make new friends and have fun.
“It’s great fun singing in the choir. It helps my singing and I like seeing my friends.”
– Chorister
“My daughter has gained an enormous amount of fun and friendship since joining as well as musical and singing instruction from experts.”
– Chorister parent
Open doors for the future
Many youngsters who start in a church choir find that it opens doors as they get older – Duke of Edinburgh Awards, university applications and getting choral scholarships.
You may also be surprised to learn how many of today’s famous musicians found their voice through singing in church – Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake and Ed Sheeran all have a background in church music!
There are no fees to pay – we offer a free musical education.
There are so many benefits to singing in St Peter’s Church Choir – you’ll find it all in the St Peter’s Choir Profile, including the RSCM training programme, international tours and much more!
