Stainer’s Crucifixion
John Stainer wrote The Crucifixion: A Meditation on the Sacred Passion of the Holy Redeemer in 1887 as an oratorio for parish church choirs,. The piece relates the Biblical narrative of the Passion and Crucifixion of Jesus with text by Rev W J Sparrow Simpson, and its emotional appeal draws us deeper into the Good Friday story. In today’s performance, our church choir is joined by soloists Phillip Brown (tenor) and Christopher Foster (bass). The congregation is invited to join in singing the hymns, and programme notes will be provided. This concert is free, and there will be a retiring collection to cover costs.
