Police fraud warning
Hertfordshire Police are warning everyone to beware of fraudsters who are posing as police officers and contacting residents, asking them to hand over their bank cards or money as part of an “investigation”. People in St Albans and Watford have been recently scammed out of nearly £150,000. If you receive an unexpected call from someone claiming to be from the police, do not hand over any cards, cash or account numbers. End the call and dial 101 to report it to the real police – but be careful, as your phone line may still be connected to the offender. Use a different phone (a mobile or a neighbour’s phone), or wait at least 5 minutes before calling the police. Please share this information with your older relatives and friends – this crime has a devastating effect on people, and you can help to raise awareness to prevent more people becoming victims.
