Bubonic Plague Pandemic

Bubonic plague (the “Black Death”) ravages Europe killing one-third of the population. The effect of the deadly disease outbreak can be seen in the rapid succession of rectors between 1369 and 1386, when St Peter’s had eight successive rectors, the shortest being Thomas Payne, who lasted only nine days.
