Salisbury Cathedral visit
Hot on the heels of their visit to Southwark Cathedral earlier in February, St Peter’s Church Choir made another visit as a guest choir last Friday – this time to sing choral evensong at Salisbury Cathedral in Wiltshire. Salisbury Cathedral is a magnificent place – founded in 1220 (just a couple of years before St Peter’s!), it has the tallest church spire in England (404 feet/123m), and the scale of the building is really quite breathtaking. In the nave is a modern baptismal font with continually running water, which offers spectacular reflections of the medieval architecture. Our choir sang the Rose Responses, the Evening Canticles in B minor by Noble, O God thou are my God by Purcell, and the Wheels on the Bus go Round and Round on the charabanc home. It is a privilege for parish church choirs to sing at the great Cathedrals, and a memorable and inspiring experience for our young choristers (as well as for the adults!). Thank you to the Dean and Chapter of Salisbury Cathedral for their warm welcome, to Adrian Davis (a Salisbury native) for making this happen, and to Chris Beauchamp for the extremely loud organ voluntary. Photos of the day (obrigado, Maria!) are available on our Facebook page and on the St Peter’s website:
