John Sayer Almshouses open days

There’s another open day at the John Sayer Almshouses on Berkhamsted High Street. Everyone is again invited to come and visit the historic almshouses 10am – 2pm, see the gardens and hear about the latest progress in the restoration project. There will be tea, coffee and cake in the garden. Free entry, donations welcome.

The Almshouses were established in 1681 from a bequest by John Sayer, whose black marble tomb stands in the Lady Chapel in St Peter’s. Sayer was a wealthy parishioner who was chief cook to King Charles II and was mentioned in The Diary of Samuel Pepys.
