Evensong for Advent
Our church choir will be leading a service of choral evensong for Advent. Although most of the world has already decked the halls with tinsel, we are still in the Advent season, and this will be a service of prayer and contemplation as we prepare spiritually for Christmas. The choir will sing plainsong, the ancient music of the church, and the anthem will be Rejoice in the Lord alway, based on Philippians 4:4-7, the introit for the Third Sunday of Advent. The composer is unknown, but the piece is commonly attributed to the Tudor composer John Redford (c. 1500-1547).
