Cemetery honey

Did you know that the Friends of St Peter’s keep bees? For some years there have been beehives in Rectory Lane Cemetery, where bees can take advantage of the wonderful variety of British wildflowers, lavenders etc. The Friends have been working with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, who have been surveying our cemetery for Early Bumblebee, Buff-tailed Bumblebee, Hairy Footed Flower Bee, Common carder, White-tailed Bumblebee, Tree Bumblebee, Cuckoo Bumblebee, Red-tailed Bumblebee (who knew there were so many different types of bumblebee?). Sadly this year has been the worst year on record for bumblebees due to heavy rains, but despite this, the Friends are happy to report that they have still had a good harvest of honey. Jars of delicious Rectory Lane Cemetery will be on sale this winter to raise vial funds for the Cemetery, and we hope to have a honey stall in St Peter’s during the Festival of Light.
