Berkhamsted remembers
There was a good turnout once more at the Remembrance Sunday parade. The fallen were remembered at a wreath-laying ceremony at 11am in the Garden of Remembrance War Memorial in Rectory Lane Cemetery. This is the detached burial ground of St Peter’s Church, where those laid to rest in the town’s Commonwealth War Graves are commemorated. The High Street afternoon parade concluded with a sounding of the Last Post at the Town War Memorial and a Remembrance Sunday service in church. On Monday, Armistice Day, a small gathering paused at the Town War Memorial for silent remembrance at 11am.
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”
For the Fallen, Laurence Binyon 1914
