Alban Day Pilgrimage & Festival
The annual festival in St Albans honouring the legacy of St Alban, Britain’s first saint.
11am: Alban Pilgrimage procession through St Albans city centre with 12-foot puppets in the street, retelling Alban’s story
12 noon: Pilgrimage Eucharist at St Albans Cathedral
12 noon – 5pm: Entertainment and activities across St Albans, including Roman battle reenactments and street theatre
4pm: Pilgrimage Evensong at the Cathedral and procession to the Shrine of St Alban
Among the puppets parading down the street will be a giant eyeball – this refers to the colourful legend of Alban’s martyrdom, when the eyes of his Roman executioner were said to have popped out of his head!
