Renovation Appeal update
The renovation appeal committee was formed last year with two aims:
- to raise money for the urgent repairs to the church’s fabric to fix the leaks
- to define and fund-raise for a once-in-a-generation renovation of the church for a new set of worshippers and for greatly increased participation by the whole Berkhamsted community, and to meet our Net Zero targets. It will improve our heating, lighting, install solar panels, and make general improvements to the church and Court House
We’ve raised around £60,000 towards these repairs with raffles, craft fairs, donations and we plan to spend much of this money, over the summer, on repairing the roof on the east side of the North Transept to fix the leak there. We are working together with the church’s surveyor to obtain quotes, and the PCC has given outline approval to the work going ahead subject to satisfactory quotes. This will be with the money already raised.
We’ve had constructive meetings with the Heritage Lottery Fund who have steered us down the path of making two separate grant applications:
- a short-term smaller project to fix the urgent leaks on the south side of the church to make it watertight and
- a longer-term larger project to address the church renovation – with heating, lighting, sound, solar panels etc.
So thank you to all of you who have contributed so generously to our appeals; the committee members are working hard to make our church watertight and even more comfortable.
