01442 214 898 | Preparation of a new Church Electoral RollThe Church Electoral Roll is a list of all the members of St Peter's Church. Normally, we update the roll once a year to add newcomers and remove people who have left the parish or passed away. Every few years, we are required to compile a brand new Electoral Roll, and so this year we have to start a new roll. Everyone who wishes to be included must fill out an application form, whether you have been worshipping at St Peter's for 50 years or you have just moved to the area. - Application forms for enrolment are available in St Peter's Church
- If you're unable to get to St Peter's to fill in a form, download the application form below, fill it in and email to the Church Electoral Roll Officer, Oliver Fradgley
If you want to attend the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) on 5 April, your application form for enrolment must be returned by Sunday 23 March 2025. See the notice attached here and on the church noticeboards for full details and terms of enrolment. Contact: Send an email to: Oliver Fradgley
07749 602 987 | Sunday School Lent appeal: Pens For Kids UKDuring Lent, the Sunday School are supporting the work of local charity Pens For Kids UK by collecting: - Writing pens (biros, berol etc not fountain/mechanical)
- Felt tip pens - Pencils - Colouring pencils
Please bring your donations to church on the Sundays of Lent. Lent is a time to think of those less fortunate than ourselves. This is a way we can help children around the world who don't have the pens and pencils that we take for granted every day. You can find out more about the work of this charity here: www.pensforkids.co.uk | aChurchNearYou.comDid you know that St Peter's Great Berkhamsted is on aChurchNearYou.com? This is the Church of England's online directory of parishes, and helps people to find their nearest Anglican or LEP place of worship using an interactive map. It also enables churches to highlight their services and events. follow the link below to see what's coming up at St Peter's over Lent and Holy Week: www.achurchnearyou.com/church/7548 | Mistaken identity
The weekly wrangle with Facebook over copyright in our worship videostream has yielded some interesting results - this week, Facebook's automated copyright police has decided that it was not, in fact, our own church choir singing the anthem last week, but The Sixteen conducted by Harry Christophers, and that the organ voluntary was (somewhat miraculously) played by the late Peter Hurford. This will no doubt come as very welcome news to our esteemed church musicians. (See also this week's Cartoon Church below.) | Court House improvements Lots of work goes on behind the scenes to raise money and make improvements to our buildings. This week, we are very grateful to Berkhamsted Town Council for a grant of £500 towards installing new radiators in the Court House. Councillors recognised that the Court House is of public benefit and were very happy to offer funding for improving the facilities. The design of modern radiators is now much more efficient and they give out lots more warmth. This will enable us to provide more effective heating for our customers in the winter months. Thanks are due to Susan Holmes and Carolynne Charman for organising this grant! | Dates for your diariesLooking ahead to April, here are the dates for Holy Week and Easter: Sun | 13 April | 9:30am | Sung Eucharist for Palm Sunday | Wed | 16 April | 8:00pm | Tenebrae | Thurs | 17 April | 8:00pm | Maundy Thursday Mass | Fri | 18 April | 2:00pm | Good Friday Liturgy | | | 6:00pm | Sacred Concert: Stainer's Crucifixion | Sun | 20 April | 6:00am | Easter Vigil (First Mass of Easter) | | | 9:30am | Sung Eucharist for Easter Day | | Court House bookings
Just a friendly reminder about using the Court House for church events: - If you are planning an event in the Court House, please be sure to book your dates before creating publicity - this is a public venue, and you may get "gazumped" by a kiddies' birthday party/karate club/knitting circle if you have not secured a booking
- You can book a church event for free using the online booking system
- If you don't feel like using the booking system, just email your dates & times to the Parish Office, and specify which rooms (so the heating can be set accordingly) - but please check the calendar for availability first, to save a lot of email to-ing and fro-ing

Schools news Victoria School news
As we approach Easter, the focus for our collective worship this week was the feeding of the 5000. We discussed the power of trust as the children were puzzled with how Jesus would be able to split the loaves and fish between so many people. They then linked the message to how they trust others to believe in them and how they were going to start believing in others to encourage them. It has been a busy week with two visits from Ashlyns students. The sports leaders worked with Year 1 on a range of sporting skills and the second visit was with Year 2 where the two schools looked at history together, sharing their knowledge and understanding of being a historian. For next week's activities, we are having a Beep Beep Day (road safety) for the early years and celebrating the International Day of Happiness with our Kindness Ambassadors. Next Sunday: 23 March 2025 3rd Sunday of LentMusic this weekHymns: Anthem: | Lord for thy tender mercy's sake - Hilton | Voluntary: | Prelude & Fugue in e, BWV 533 - J. S. Bach | ReadingsGenesis 15.1-12, 17-18After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, ‘Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.’ But Abram said, ‘O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?’ And Abram said, ‘You have given me no offspring, and so a slave born in my house is to be my heir.’ But the word of the Lord came to him, ‘This man shall not be your heir; no one but your very own issue shall be your heir.’ He brought him outside and said, ‘Look towards heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them.’ Then he said to him, ‘So shall your descendants be.’ And he believed the Lord; and the Lord reckoned it to him as righteousness. Then he said to him, ‘I am the Lord who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to possess.’ But he said, ‘O Lord God, how am I to know that I shall possess it?’ He said to him, ‘Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtle-dove, and a young pigeon.’ He brought him all these and cut them in two, laying each half over against the other; but he did not cut the birds in two. And when birds of prey came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away.As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and a deep and terrifying darkness descended upon him. When the sun had gone down and it was dark, a smoking fire-pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces. On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, ‘To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates, Psalm 271 The Lord is my light, and my salvation; whom then shall I fear * the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom then shall I be afraid?2 When the wicked, even mine enemies, and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh * they stumbled and fell.3 Though an host of men were laid against me, yet shall not my heart be afraid * and though there rose up war against me, yet will I put my trust in him.4 One thing have I desired of the Lord, which I will require * even that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the fair beauty of the Lord, and to visit his temple.5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his tabernacle * yea, in the secret place of his dwelling shall he hide me, and set me up upon a rock of stone.6 And now shall he lift up mine head * above mine enemies round about me.7 Therefore will I offer in his dwelling an oblation with great gladness * I will sing, and speak praises unto the Lord.8 Hearken unto my voice, O Lord, when I cry unto thee * have mercy upon me, and hear me.9 My heart hath talked of thee, Seek ye my face * Thy face, Lord, will I seek.10 O hide not thou thy face from me * nor cast thy servant away in displeasure.11 Thou hast been my succour * leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.12 When my father and my mother forsake me * the Lord taketh me up.13 Teach me thy way, O Lord * and lead me in the right way, because of mine enemies.14 Deliver me not over into the will of mine adversaries * for there are false witnesses risen up against me, and such as speak wrong.15 I should utterly have fainted * but that I believe verily to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.16 O tarry thou the Lord’s leisure * be strong, and he shall comfort thine heart; and put thou thy trust in the Lord. Gospel: Luke 13.31-35At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him, ‘Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.’ He said to them, ‘Go and tell that fox for me, “Listen, I am casting out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work. Yet today, tomorrow, and the next day I must be on my way, because it is impossible for a prophet to be killed away from Jerusalem.” Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! See, your house is left to you. And I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when you say, “Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.” ’
