BIRTH OF JOHN THE BAPTIST                                     24 June 2007

We welcome all who worship here today.   If you are a newcomer please speak to one of the welcomers or to one of the clergy.   We invite you to complete a card which you will find in your pew, or on the table near the door of the church, and hand it to one of the welcomers.   Communicant members of all Churches are welcome to receive Holy Communion.   If you are not receiving Communion please come to the altar rail for a blessing and carry a book so the minister knows.

Collect:  Almighty God, by whose providence your servant John the Baptist was wonderfully born, and sent to prepare the way of your Son our Saviour by the preaching of repentance: lead us to repent according to his preaching and, after his example, constantly to speak the truth, boldly to rebuke vice, and patiently to suffer for the truth’s sake; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.   AMEN

Readings:  Isaiah 40:1-11             Acts 13:14b-26         Luke 1:57-66, 80

Post Communion:  Merciful Lord, whose prophet John the Baptist proclaimed your Son as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world: grant that we who in this sacrament have known your forgiveness and your life-giving love may ever tell of your mercy and your peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.   AMEN

We pray this week

within the Anglican Communion for  the diocese of Oyo, Nigeria, and Bishop Jacob Fasipe

for our Diocese of St Albans, Christopher our Bishop and for all his staff

for our Church Crèches, Sunday Schools, Pathfinder and Young People’s Fellowship groups and for Little Fishes & Chuckles toddler groups, for all who attend them and for all who help to run them

for Aaron James Samuel Carke, Charlotte Louisa Rawles, Madeline Lucy Woollett & Joseph Theo Woollett being baptised at St Peter’s today and for their parents and godparents

for Seamus Cummins & Katherine Freestone being married at St Peter’s this week

for the lonely, the anxious, the bereaved, and amongst the sick for Judith Hill, Muriel Norman, Christina Billington, Angela Morris, Baby Alex Wright, Mary Swallow, Betty Thorne, Priscilla Coombs, Penny Jones, Royston Dyche, Tom Hible, Brian Cruttenden

for those who have died recently:  Ruby Woodstock, Harold Purchase

and at his anniversary pray for: Jack Bandle

We give thanks for our communion with all the Saints, especially the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Peter our patron.

PLEASE TAKE THIS PEW LEAFLET AWAY WITH YOU  as a reminder of dates, subjects for prayer etc.   Do take copies for anyone not here today.
Copies of recent sermons preached at St Peter’s are available at St Peter’s on the church tables and also at http://stpetersberkhamsted.org.uk
