FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT                                         25 February 2007

We welcome all who worship here today.   If you are a newcomer please speak to one of the welcomers or to one of the clergy.   We invite you to complete a card which you will find in your pew, or on the table near the door of the church, and hand it to one of the welcomers.   Communicant members of all Churches are welcome to receive Holy Communion.   If you are not receiving Communion please come to the altar rail for a blessing and carry a book so the minister knows.

Collect:  Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ fasted forty days in the wilderness, and was tempted as we are, yet without sin:  give us grace to discipline ourselves in obedience to your Spirit;  and, as you know our weakness, so may we know your power to save;    through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.   AMEN

Readings:  Deuteronomy 26: 1-11      Romans 10: 8b-13           Luke 4:1-13

Post Communion:  Lord God, you have renewed us with the living bread from heaven; by it you nourish our faith, increase our hope, and strengthen our love: teach us always to hunger for him who is the true and living bread, and enables us to live by every word that proceeds from out of your mouth;  through Jesus Christ our Lord  AMEN

We pray this week

within the Anglican Communion for  the Diocese of Mexico and Bishop Carlos Touche-Porter

for our Diocese of St Albans, Christopher our Bishop and for all his staff

for our Church Crèches, Sunday Schools, Pathfinder and Young People’s Fellowship groups and for Little Fishes & Chuckles toddler groups, for all who attend them and for all who help to run them

for the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel (and especially Andrew and Janice Proud working in Addis Ababa)

for Owen John Gerry and Charles Philip Wyndham Goodwyn being baptised today at St Peter’s and for their parents and godparents

for the lonely, the anxious, the bereaved, and amongst the sick for Judith Hill,  Muriel Norman, Ted Lewis, Christina Billington, Angela Morris

for those who have died recently:  Phil Day

and at their anniversaries for: Tony Barnard, Harry Sheldon, Barney Blackley

We give thanks for our communion with all the Saints, especially the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Peter our patron.

At All Saints’ the weekly prayers are for everyone who lives in Durrants Road

PLEASE TAKE THIS PEW LEAFLET AWAY WITH YOU  as a reminder of dates, subjects for prayer etc.   Do take copies for anyone not here today.
