FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT                                   3 December 2006

We welcome all who worship here today.   If you are a newcomer please speak to one of the welcomers or to one of the clergy.   We invite you to complete a card which you will find in your pew, or on the table near the door of the church, and hand it to one of the welcomers.   Communicant members of all Churches are welcome to receive Holy Communion.   If you are not receiving Communion please come to the altar rail for a blessing and carry a book so the minister knows.

Kyries (and no Gloria) are said or sung during Advent – at St Peter’s see EH 541

Collect:  Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness and to put on the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which your Son Jesus Christ came to us in great humility;  that on the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever   AMEN

Readings:  Jeremiah 33:14-16   1 Thessalonians 3:9-end  Luke 21:25-36

Post Communion:  O Lord our God, make us watchful and keep us faithful as we await the coming of your Son our Lord;  that, when he shall appear, he may not find us sleeping in sin but active in his service and joyful in his praise;  through Jesus Christ our Lord   AMEN

We pray this week

within the Anglican Communion for the Reformed Episcopal Church of Spain

for our Diocese of St Albans, Christopher our Bishop and for all his staff

for the Centre for the elderly at Gossoms End, for the Hospice of St Francis and for the Iain Rennie Hospice at home, for those who need care and for those who provide care in many ways

for the lonely, the anxious, the bereaved, and amongst the sick for Douglas Hartley, Judith Hill, Phil Day, Fred Monnington, Muriel Norman, John Bonnett, Ted Lewis, Brenda Quarmby, Valerie Ruddock

for those who have died recently:  Ken Greene

and at their anniversaries pray for:  Edith  Morgan, Hal Owen

We give thanks for our communion with all the Saints, especially the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Peter our patron.

At All Saints’ the weekly prayers are for everyone who lives in Charles St (from North Rd to Cross Oak Rd)

PLEASE TAKE THIS PEW LEAFLET AWAY WITH YOU  as a reminder of dates, subjects for prayer etc.   Do take copies for anyone not here today.
Copies of the Sermon preached by Fr Michael at St Peter’s last Sunday [26th] are available on the St Peter’s tables and also at http://stpetersberkhamsted.org.uk
