THE FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT                         27 November 2005

We welcome all who worship here today.  If you are a newcomer please speak to one of the welcomers or to one of the clergy.  We invite you to complete a card which you will find in your pew, or on the table near the door of the church, and hand it to one of the welcomers.  Communicant members of all Churches are welcome to receive Holy Communion.  If you are not receiving Communion please come to the altar rail for a blessing and carry a book so the minister knows.

Kyries replace the Gloria during Advent -  musical setting at St Peter’s EH 541

Collect:  Almighty God, as your kingdom dawns, turn us from the darkness of sin to the light of holiness, that we may be ready to meet you in our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ   AMEN

Readings:  Isaiah 64:1-9          1 Corinthians 1:3-9         Mark 13:24-37

Post Communion:  O Lord our God, make us watchful and keep us faithful as we await the coming of your Son our Lord; that, when he shall appear, he may not find us sleeping in sin but active in his service and joyful in his praise;  through Jesus Christ our Lord.      AMEN

We pray this week

for Christopher our Bishop and for Christopher and Richard his suffragans

for our Church Crèches, Sunday Schools, Pathfinder and Young People’s Fellowship groups and for Little Fishes & Chuckles toddler groups, for all who attend them and for all who help to run them

for the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel (and especially Andrew and Janice Proud working in Addis Ababa)

for Sean Frederic Jarrett, Francesca Rose Malam, Jesse Redd Salterpicco and Evelyn Alice Smith who are being baptised today and for their parents and godparents

for the lonely, the anxious, the bereaved;  and amongst the sick for Douglas Hartley, May Kempster, Michael Taylor, Christina Billington, Giles Higgins, Angela Morris, Liz Baxendale, Brenda Cust, Phil Day

for those who have died recently:

and at his anniversary pray for: Percy Morris

We give thanks for our communion with all the Saints, especially the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Peter our patron.

At All Saints’ the weekly prayers are for everyone who lives in Shootersway Park

PLEASE TAKE THIS PEW LEAFLET AWAY WITH YOU  as a reminder of dates, subjects for prayer etc.   Do take copies for anyone not here today.
