THE SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT                         5 December 2004

Eucharistic Prayer A may be used at Holy Communion Services today

We welcome all who worship here today.   If you are a newcomer please speak to one of the welcomers or to one of the clergy.   We invite you to complete a card which you will find in your pew, or on the table near the door of the church, and hand it to one of the welcomers.   Communicant members of all Churches are welcome to receive Holy Communion.   If you are not receiving Communion please come to the altar rail for a blessing and carry a book so the minister knows.

Collect:  Almighty God, purify our hearts and minds, that when your Son Jesus Christ comes again as  judge and Saviour we may be ready to receive him, who is our Lord and our God.   AMEN

Readings:  Isaiah 11:1-10     Romans 15:4-13     Matthew 3:1-12

Post Communion:  Father in heaven, who sent your Son to redeem the world and will send him again to be our judge:  give us grace so to imitate him in the humility and purity of his first coming that, when he comes again, we may be ready to greet him with joyful love and firm faith;  through Jesus Christ our Lord.   AMEN

We pray this week

for Christopher our Bishop and for Christopher and Richard his suffragans

for our Churchwardens and PCC as they try to discern God’s plan for the future of the parish and plans for the appointment of a new Rector

for Geoffrey Tristram of the Society of St John the Evangelist and for all those who are living in a Religious Community

for the work of the Church Army

for the lonely, the anxious, the bereaved;  and amongst the sick for Michael Taylor, Pamela Christmas, Martin Judd, James Woodstock, Jenny Cracknell, Christine Tucker, Joanne Smith, Bob Essery, Alan Cox, Douglas Hartley

for those who have died recently:  Susanne Kirkby, Elizabeth Hepher

We give thanks for our communion with all the Saints, especially the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Peter our patron.

Please note that there is A PARISH MEETING
10.45am next SUNDAY 12 DECEMBER in St Peter’s
to update the parish on the current situation during the vacancy

PLEASE TAKE THIS PEW LEAFLET AWAY WITH YOU  as a reminder of dates, subjects for prayer etc.   Do take copies for anyone not here today.
