news for pews

THE FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT 29 February 2004
Eucharistic Prayer A may be used at Holy Communion Services today
We welcome all who worship here today. If you are a newcomer please speak to one of
the welcomers or to one of the clergy.
We invite you to complete a card which you will find in your pew, or on
the table near the door of the church, and hand it to one of the
welcomers. Communicant members of all
Churches are welcome to receive Holy Communion. If you are not receiving Communion please
come to the altar rail for a blessing and carry a book so the minister knows.
Collect: Heavenly Father, your Son battled with the
powers of darkness, and grew closer to you in the desert: help us to use these days to grow in wisdom
and prayer that we may witness to your saving love in Jesus Christ our
Lord. AMEN
Readings: Deuteronomy 26: 1-11 Romans 10:8b-13 Luke 4:1-13
Post Communion: Lord God, you have renewed us with the living
bread from heaven; by it you nourish our
faith, increase our hope, and strengthen our love: teach us always to hunger
for him who is the true and living bread, and enables us to live by every word
that proceeds from out of your mouth;
through Jesus Christ our Lord AMEN
We pray this week
for Christopher our Bishop and for Christopher and
Richard his suffragans
for
the lonely, the anxious, the bereaved;
and amongst the sick for Judith Hill, Michael Taylor, Pamela Christmas,
Christine Tucker, Mavis Haile, Rod Cottrell, Alice Chambers, Tom Jones
for
those who have died recently: Beryl

and
at their anniversaries pray for:
Lawrence Haile, Barney Blackley
We give
thanks for our communion with all the Saints, especially the Blessed Virgin
Mary and St Peter our patron.
